There are two main reasons for the bubbling phenomenon of alkoxy sealant: internal and external.
1. External reasons: caused by application conditions. The main reason is that the temperature difference is too large or the construction surface temperature is too high.
2. Internal reasons: caused by alkoxy sealant itself. Because alkoxy sealant releases methanol during the curing process, and the boiling point of methanol is low, so when the construction surface temperature is too high, the released methanol cannot be volatilized in a timely and effective manner, it will vaporize inside the sealant and form bulges and bubbles.
The phenomenon that alkoxy sealant is easy to bubbling has not been completely solved. According to the vulcanization mechanism of this product, commonly used methods in the industry to reduce or decrease bubbling include:
1. Control the dosage of cross-linking agent, because the more cross-linking agent is added, the greater amount of methanol released and the easier it is to bubble.
2. Reduce the tack free time of the sealant so that the released methanol can have sufficient time to evaporate.
3. Use methanol absorbent. No good absorbent has been found yet.
4. Mainly avoid exposure to the sun during application
